17 April 2025

Crawley College hosted Jim McMahon, Minister for Local Government and English Devolution, earlier this month during his visit to the town.

Jim McMahon, Minister for Local Government and English Devolution, chats to SECAmb apprentices at Crawley College
He spent time meeting and chatting to SECAmb (South East Coast Ambulance Service) apprentices, who shared their experiences and insight into their apprenticeship programmes at the college.

He also explored the college’s Green Village, where green skills are integrated into curriculum courses. This helps prepare students with essential skills for their future careers as well as offering training opportunities for employers to upskill their workforce.

During his visit, Mr McMahon commented on the dedication of the apprentices as well as the passion and commitment the staff demonstrated in ensuring young people and adults are equipped with the skills they need to succeed.

Dean Wynter, Acting Principal at Crawley College, said: “This was an important opportunity for the minister to see the work we are doing to support our learners and apprentices with the skills they will need in their future careers, especially around sustainable technology.

“We are always looking for new, innovative ways to embed green skills into our curriculum and the Green Village is an important way for us to do that.

“We were delighted that Mr McMahon seemed to be impressed by what he saw at the college, and he spoke very highly about his visit along with the apprentices that he met.”
